FRIDA KAHLO, MAKING HER SELF UP

The V&A opens up a special exhibition all around Frida Kahlo on the 16th of the month called Making Her Self Up. The exhibition offers the public insight into her fascinating life via artefacts and personal belongings that have never been exhibited outside of her home of Mexico before now. Born in Mexico City in 1907, her life work celebrated and was inspired by Mexican culture exploring identity, post colonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society and Kahlo herself is one of the world’s most recognised artists as she used her distinctive face as the subject of many of her own works. You can expect to see many of her colourful and intricately embroidered outfits, makeup, paintings, photographs and even a prosthetic leg worn by Kahlo after she had her leg amputated in 1953. ORRERY LONDON

If Orrery was American, it would be able to drink alcohol for the first time this year as it celebrates it’s 21st birthday. To commemorate this momentous occasion the restaurant has recently undergone a subtle but delightful interiors refresh but fans of Orrery will be thrilled to hear the food and drinks are as magnifique as ever. Located on Marylebone High street, the white table cloths, impeccable service and calming colour scheme all add up to one divine dining experience. Menu highlights include Fillet steak tartare with quails egg, sourdough & truffle, the Jerusalem artichoke risotto, with Winter black truffle and artichoke crisps or the Dorset crab, wasabi, avocado & mango 10 supplement. Add in some crisp white wine or perhaps a Flirtini cocktail and you’ll never want to leave. TARTUFFE

Tartuffe, also known as The Imposter, is one of the most famous theatrical comedies by Molière. Written in 1664, it tells the tale of the plays title character who has hoodwinked those around him to the point of stealing another characters wife, money and even daughter. Shameless. The Theatre Royal Haymarket in Soho have taken this story and adapted it for the modern day, set in LA and starring a host of big names including Paul Anderson (Peaky Blinders fans will be first in line for tickets no doubt), plus Audrey Fleurot and Sebastian Roché amongst others. Opening on the 25th of the month until late July this adaptation has been penned by Academy, BAFTA and Olivier award winner Christopher Hampton and the production is bilingual and will switch between English dialogue and French surtitles, and then vice versa. “But what's a surtitle” you shout from the dress circle. LONDON HONG KONG DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL

2018 marks the 23rd, yes 23rd!!!, edition of the annual London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival at London’s Regatta Centre this Sunday 3rd June. The free, family-friendly, dragon boat racing event welcomes 10,000 visitors from all over the UK and overseas to enjoy and take part in one of the UK’s most exciting cross-cultural sporting occasions. Throughout the day, the spectacular action on the water will be provided by more than 40 competing club, corporate and amateur teams. Drama unfolds as novices do battle with some of the UK’s greatest paddlers, as well as the elements, to take home 6 cups. On land, the event’s South East Asian food festival will represent the culinary tastes of each country in the region including Mei Mei’s Street Cart, Bite Mi, Newdlez Pad Thai, Hanoi Kitchen, Pochi, Wok n Roll, EatFan, Enak Enak as well as the wonderful Vietnamese Coffee of Ca Phe Vn and sensational cocktails and Tiger Beer from Quirky Bars while entertainment including live music and martial arts displays will be provided on the East West Festival stage with traditional Chinese lion dancing proceeding the ‘dotting of the eyes ceremony’ to launch the event. THE MOONSHINE SALOON

Moonshine was originally a slang term for high-proof distilled spirits produced illegally against the government's wishes. AKA prohibition style powerful party fuel. AKA A MASSIVE PARTY! Head to the Kings Road to ‘Step off the streets of West London and onto the streets of the Wild West’. The Moonshine Saloon is a BYO affair where the mixologists will hook you up with sumptuous cocktails based on your hard liquor of choice. You’ll be wearing stetsons, playing card games, probably spitting and generally adopting all the mannerisms of a raucous cowboy at a hoedown. This is not the bar for anyone who is afraid of letting their hair down and taking on a lil’ role play for fun. MARKET HALLS FULHAM

So apparently if you're not a one stop desto with a mix of food and drink delights under one roof here in London town then you ain't worth knowing. So Fulham heard this news and jumped on the unsurprising bandwagon with Market Halls. They took on the well-preserved entrance hall of an Edwardian Underground station in Fulham Broadway and with a lick of paint, nine food stops, a coffee shop, a deli and a fully stocked bar - boom, we have ourselves a banging new venue for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks seven days a week! AND, they are dog friendly AND they have a separate kids area if your little ones are in tow so everyone's a winner. Foodie treats include Yard Sale Pizza, Ahi Poke and Thima by Farang. The truth is this is actually the first of three Market Halls with one in Victoria opening late summer and the third near Oxford Circus this winter so if Fulham isn't that convenient, then fear not for more are on the way. Our favourite part is that each of them are opening in unloved public spaces with special architectural or historic interest meaning once loved gems are getting a second chance. Our mission is to change the future of Gynae cancers and women’s health, one slightly crazy event at a time.
